Cary, NC

A Cary photographer for family portraits, engagements, branding, and headshots.

I'm based in Raleigh and photograph throughout the Triangle, Cary included — travel within the Triangle is part of every session, not an add-on. Cary is also one of the more photographer-friendly towns in the area: its film and photography policy exempts ordinary family and portrait sessions from permitting when they don't restrict public access and use no more than a camera and one tripod.

Where to shoot in Cary

  • Fred G. Bond Metro Park — 801 High House Road. Water reflections, trails, and wooded scenery — a strong first choice for family sessions, maternity, and engagements. Simple portrait sessions are generally covered by Cary's photography exemption; larger setups or reserved-use areas may need additional approval.

  • Downtown Cary Park — 327 S. Academy Street. The Skywalk, garden paths, fountains, and modern landscaping suit branding, couples, and family portraits. Commercial shoots or sessions using restricted access and more extensive equipment need a reservation and fee through the park's rental process — confirm whether a standard portrait session qualifies for Cary's general exemption first.

  • Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve — 2616 Kildaire Farm Road. Mature forest and trails for intimate family portraits, couples, and natural-light editorial work. Cary's general exemption may cover small sessions; check preserve-specific rules and stay on established trails.

  • Page-Walker Arts & History Center — 119 Ambassador Loop. Historic architecture, porches, and gardens for a polished, editorial look — a good fit for engagement sessions, branding, and professional headshots. No separate portrait fee is publicly confirmed; confirm exterior access with the facility, since interior or reserved-area use needs separate authorization.

  • Fenton — 201 Fenton Gateway Drive. Modern architecture and polished storefronts for branding, fashion, and lifestyle editorial work. This is privately managed property, so management approval is needed for paid sessions, especially lighting setups or commercial advertising photography.
